Workshop: Animation Directing (PG)

MAF Workshops allow experts to deliver intimate workshops to small groups of people, focusing on specialist subjects and giving insider information and top tips from those at the top of their game!

Have you ever wondered how the director and animators use live action video (LAV) reference to inform their performances? Through this practical workshop led by professional animator and Paper & Clay company co-founder Will Becher, participants will have the opportunity to find out more about the role of animation director and develop their practical directing skills and knowledge.

The workshop will:
– Breakdown the pre shoot process with a stop-motion production overview.
– Demonstrate how LAVs are used in stop-motion feature films and offer an insight into different practices.
– Develop an understanding of planning and running a LAV rehearsal.
– Provide an opportunity to practise a LAV.
– Demonstrate how the LAV is imported and used as reference in Dragonframe.

Will Becher

Will Becher is a freelance animator, director, and co-founder of Paper & Clay. Will designed and animated the MAF Bee for 2023 in his home studio and is currently working as Supervising Animator on the upcoming Wallace & Gromit film due for release in 2024.
