Karl Doran
Karl is the founder and creative director of award-winning agency Flow.
With a background in graphic design, fine art and photography, Karl sent himself back to university to learn animation, specializing in motion design, a discipline that brings together many of his passions – art, design, music and film. Today, he leads the agency and its team of creatives, directs animated films and oversees the creative output across brand, motion, digital and film.
Having worked at some of the North West’s top creative and advertising agencies Karl founded Flow in 2016 with a vision for a new type of creative studio – one that combined creativity and craft with a design-led approach to storytelling. Based on what he had learned about the industry from freelancing at lots of agencies he wanted to create the studio he wanted to work at – one that does amazing work, has a collaborative and supportive culture, and works with clients that are making a positive difference in the world.
Since opening its doors 6 years ago Flow has become established as one of the UK’s leading motion studios, working with clients globally on commercial animation, and behavior change campaigns. Combining its human-led approach to creativity and its love of craft Flow has gradually evolved to a hybrid model that is part advertising agency, part brand studio and part production company, creating award-winning campaigns, films, and motion brand systems.
