Denis Do

Denis Do is a film director. He was born aid raised in Paris. Passioned by images and drawings, he was graduated in 2009 from Gobelins, l’école de l’Image. The Ribbon, his graduation film was co-directed and was about a love story under the Cultural Revolution in China. This first experience gave birth to his envy of cinema.

His first feature Funan is based on his family story under the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. The film is released in March 2019 and was multi-awarded around the world. It received the prestigious Crystal Award for feature film during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2018.

He is currently finishing the production of his next film, a 40min animation film called The Forest of Miss Tang , the film who takes roots in the story of his own community, the Teochew people.

He is also currently developing Sorya, his next feature. The story of a teenage girl who wants to reach her dream, to be a singer. A revival of the musical golden age of Cambodia and the rock music of the 60’s. A story about dreams, envy and life of the young generation in Cambodia.

Denis Dos stories are told on a human scale, inspired by his triple cultures of French, Chinese and Khmer, from an intimate and strong point of view. He anchored the small history inside the big one, through sombre and realistic staging.
