Audience FAQ

Please find below some answers that might be useful to any questions you have about this year’s festival.

When is the Festival taking place?

This years festival takes place from Sun 13 – Fri 18 Nov in venue and our online offering will be available online from Sat 19 Nov – Sat 26 Nov.

Family Day takes place on Sun 13 Nov.
Educating Animators Academic Conference takes place on Mon 14 Nov.
Industry Day and the Marketplace take place on Thu 17 Nov.

Sunday & Friday of the festival are aimed at more of a general public audience who may only want to attend one event and miss out on tickets Mon-Thu due to passholders. Passholder ticket allocations for Sun & Fri will be very limited on these days so we highly advise passholders to arrange their trip around the Mon-Thu programming.

What venues does the festival take place at?

Manchester Animation Festival 2022 will be in-venue from 13-18 Nov 2022. The festival’s core venue will be HOME, with other events taking place at Manchester Central Library, The Anthony Burgess Foundation, Jurys Inn,  Odeon Great Northern, Lock 91 and Brickhouse Social.

For information about the venues accessibility please see our access pages here.

Will any of this year's festival be online?

Yes! Whilst we are returning to what looks like a ‘normal’ MAF in venue, we don’t want to leave behind the audiences that loved our online output the past two years.
This years online offering will be available online from Sat 19 Nov – Sat 26 Nov and will consist of a selection of shorts films playing at the festival, along with a selection of Q&A’s and Masterclasses; some of which are events recorded during the in-person festival and some of which are exclusive to online audiences!
Access to the online programme will be available for anyone with a Festival Pass, an Online Only Pass, and single tickets will be available too.
Whether you enjoy experiencing the best animation films on the big screen or from the comfort of your own home we hope to be able to provide a MAF that suits you!

What does my pass or ticket get me into?

Please head to our dedicated tickets page for all the information you’ll need on passes & tickets along with a few additional pass FAQs.

Read the full booking T&Cs here.

Will COVID safety procedures will be in place for any in-venue events?

Whilst we are limited in what we can legally enforce now, we kindly ask that all attendees read and adhere to our Community Agreement as part of our terms and conditions. Whilst we cannot implement and enforce rules, we expect all of our attendees to respect those who wish to wear masks and limit social interactions due to fears over their health.

Can you recommend any good hotels?

We highly recommend staying with our hotel partners Jurys Inn Manchester! The hotel is lovely, and only a stones throw from most of our key venues. Use the code ANIMATION when booking to get 20% discount on the best available rates!

As noted on the tickets page, we highly recommend booking hotels to experience the festival from Mon-Thu as the activity on Sun & Fri is designed for general audiences who may miss out on tickets during the core festival; and the pass ticket allocations reflect this intent.

Where can I find accessibility information about the festival?

Check out our access information here.

How do I manage or transfer a pass?

Head to the our Eventive site and log in to your Eventive account. View your passes by clicking the pass icon in the upper right corner.

If you see “Details Needed” in red next to your pass, click Edit Details to fill in information still needed for your pass, like your name.

If you have multiple passes in your account, you can assign them to different people by clicking the gear icon to the right and then clicking “Transfer Pass”.

You will need the email address of the person you are transferring the pass to. Once you submit the form, the recipient will receive an email with a link that will allow them to accept the transfer and add the pass to their account. Until they accept the transfer, the pass will remain in your account. Once they accept, the pass will permanently disappear from your account unless the recipient transfers it back to you. The recipient will then follow the steps above to activate their account.

What system are you using?

We are using Eventive for our online offering and box office system, as well as Stripe for all of our payments!

How does viewing online content work?

Most of the content will go live on Sat 19 Nov. Many of the events will be pre-recorded so you can view them at your leisure during the festival. Do check each individual page for their availability window.

Once you have ordered your ticket, you will see a “Watch Now” button. This button will become active when the content becomes available. Once you hit watch now, you have 48 hours to complete your viewing of the programme or event.

If you’ve ordered a program that includes a livestream, simply navigate to the Q&A and then click “Enter Livestream” at the designated time. There is a countdown clock on the livestream window to let you know when it will start.

How will you be screening work securely online at the festival?

All short film content screened at MAF is run through state-of-the-art DRM security with forensic watermarking.

DRM prevents users from downloading, copying, redistributing, or converting content to ensure streams only play back on trusted devices with a valid session.

I don’t live in the UK, can I still watch the online festival?

All online talks/Q&As/masterclasses will be available to our international audiences.

All films are geolocked and can only be viewed in the UK & Northern Ireland, unless otherwise stated. The geolocked films are due to distribution rights in other territories and filmmakers wishes.
